I don't know about you, but there is just something something so comforting about a little log cabin in the woods. Its comfy. Its cozy. There's a fire going and there's always millions of blankets and chili and really cute woodsy decor. It just sounds like heaven. Or a Life Time Christmas Movie set....
anyway I will admit that I spent many years thinking I wanted to be an interior designer. Terrorizing my mother by mutilating her Southern Living magazines and placing them in plastic sleeves for my "lookbook". This DIY that I came across would have definitely made the cut.
Anyone looking to add a little southern charm or back woods to their house or apartment this is perfect for you. Its small and relatively easy and is actually a really cute gift too. Its a great way to get rid of stray branches in your yard and to still be environmentally friendly, or to save a memento from a tree in your yard that meant a lot to you or your kids.
Here's what you need:
- Straight branches that are no smaller than 3.5” in diameter
- Hand saw
- Sandpaper
- Clear Varnish
Directions:
1. Using the saw cut sections of branches that ½” thick.
2. Sand each section with heavy grit sandpaper, and then use a finer grit to smooth out the surface. Do not sand the bark on the edges.
3. Coat front, back, and sides with clear varnish and let dry. Untreated wood can also look beautiful as it absorbs the drips and condensation from the glasses that sit on it.
And thats it! I think these coasters look so different and unique.
**** To add a little flair, before you add the varnish, grab some paint from Walmart or hobby lobby and add a monogram, a design, or anything you want! Like I mentioned earlier, personalized coasters make amazing gifts!
