Looking at fashion in a globally conscious and rebellious way. Not all of us have glitter in our eyes.

Daily Dose # 8: Androgyny

Daily Dose # 8: Androgyny

Here we are the in 21st century, still grappling with gender roles. It seems silly that we have not evolved enough to be able to move past these traditional binary constraints. However there are some people who have made a huge difference in challenging traditional gender roles, especially in fashion. We all know about drag, and how it challenges gender roles, however a lot of people don't talk as much about androgyny. Now, if you are looking at the true definition of the word, it means that you look kind of female and kind of male. Usually people dress in a way that it is hard to tell which sex they truly are... you are of indeterminate sex. So instead of dressing in a way that ascribes to one gender role or sex, people can not ascribe to either and or none.

The androgenous look has become pretty popular in fashion since the 90s. Also, parts of the lesbian community have adopted it as a self identifying fashion.

Here are some great androgynous labels that you should check out:

1. Original Tomboy:

2. Androgyny
3. Marimacho
4. HauteButch

5.Fourteen
6. Wildfang
7. Saint Harridan
8. Veer NYC

9. VEEA
